MoRA aims to create strong identity and may become Charlotte’s newest hot neighborhood

screen-shot-2016-09-14-at-3-40-51-pmThere is a new area of town along the Monroe Road corridor that is starting to get some serious attention, and it is only a matter of time before it is the next big thing. MoRA, or what will potentially be known as Monroe Road Area, is defined by the area that is bordered by Sharon Amity to the north, Matthews to the south just past Sardis Road North, and Independence Boulevard to the east. The western border is still a little unclear.

The new mixed-use development in the area, Meridian Place, is, in part, the impetus for the efforts and focus on spurring the up-and-coming nature of this area of town. The development features 250 apartments that are already open and a Hawthorne’s Pizza that is slated to open in the fall.  Hopefully, more development will encourage more development, and this neighborhood will just continue to grow and thrive.

It is definitely already a great area to live in, as it provides easy access to other parts of town, the housing market is relatively affordable, and there are fantastic places to eat and drink. It still has some work to do in the way of density and transportation options, as well as a better infrastructure for bikers and pedestrians. Plus, the area still needs a stronger identity. However this is definitely a spot in town to keep your eye on, especially as investments continue to pick up. Hopefully, what has been a various collection of single-family neighborhoods will come together and attract new residents and businesses.
