South End’s apartment boom leads to more development

southendhotelA new pizza joint and a new hotel are coming to South End. What could be better? In an area of town that has seen a major apartment boom in the last several years, these two new developments couldn’t be more fitting—one to feed the apartment dwellers and the other to house their out-of-town guests.southendpizza

The hotel is planned at Kingston Avenue and South Tryon Street on a lot that is just under an acre and practically vacant. The new hotel will include 120 guest rooms and approximately 4,700 square feet of ground floor space that will be used for cafes and restaurants or retail stores. The building could potentially be up to 75 feet tall and is conveniently located only one block from the Blue Line light rail.

As for the pizza place, it seems like there can never be too many restaurants or too much pizza. Your Pizza is slated to open in the Fall and will be a build-your-own pizza joint located at 2400 South Boulevard. The brick-oven concept that plans to partner with local breweries feels it will be a great fit for Charlottes’ millennial demographics and stellar craft beer scene.

The first Your Pie opened in Athens, GA in 2008 and the intention is to open as many as five franchises in the Charlotte area over the next three to five years. The menu, in addition to offering build-your-own pizzas, will include paninis, chopped salads, gelato, and wine and beer.

We often talk about the booming apartment scene in Charlotte, but clearly the pizza scene in Charlotte is also going strong, as evidenced by the recent successful openings of places like Blaze Pizza, Zablong Pizza and Pizzeria Omaggio, and now the anticipated opening of Your Pie.
