The new restaurant from Jimmie Johnson and the owners of Mac’s Speed Shop, called SouthBound, has opened in South End, next to Mac’s on South Boulevard.
David Jewell, one of the co-owners, says that it’s a unique dining experience that evokes the feelings of Baja and the Yucatan Peninsula, with a Southern California vibe, vs. the Tex-Mex style of cuisine already available in Charlotte. The ingredients will be fresh, with tortillas made in-house, and the menu will include seafood ceviche, street corn, tacos (with choices such as carne asada, Baja fish, and vegetarian) and churros.
Bartender Larry Suggs, with experience from The Punch Room at the Ritz-Carlton, joins the team, translating the California taqueria theme into a drinks menu that features sangria and margaritas on tap, Mexican lagers, Tequila flights and made-to-order cocktails (like the Cantarito and the Cadillac).
