Tons of development is happening along Stonewall Street and beyond

Screen Shot 2017-04-09 at 4.19.58 PMThe Stonewall Street corridor and the area just south of it in Dilworth and South End are undergoing some major construction and development, possibly making this stretch one of the busiest areas in Charlotte, according to a recent article in The Charlotte Observer. There is currently a major gym expansion, over 1,400 new apartments, and approximately 1.8 million square feet of office space, as well as the first full-size grocery store for Uptown currently under construction.

Making up the near two million square feet of office space is a new tower by Lincoln Harris that will total one million square feet and is the first phase of a redevelopment project transforming the old site of the Observer. Plus, a new office tower is opening at 615 South College near the Westin Hotel, and yet another tower will be opening at 500 East Morehead.

The Dowd YMCA is undergoing a major expansion and broke ground last week. Furthermore, 235 new units opened up at the new Lexington Dilworth apartment community and 450 apartments are in the works at Crescent Stonewall Station along with a Whole Foods grocery store in the same location. 550 South Caldwell is getting 421 new apartments and there will be an additional 302 units at the Montage apartment community.

On the horizon and soon to break ground are two new hotels in the area, an additional brand-new office tower and hundreds of new apartments, as well as an ever expanding retail and dining scene.
